A prolific shoplifter who stole from Tesco, B&M and The Range in Evesham has been jailed. Police said Matthew Schramm "blighted" the community and officers were pleased to see "justice" served.

The 43-year-old thief was arrested for breach of bail on Sunday, October 6. He was remanded to Kidderminster Magistrates' Court on Monday.

The court found Schramm guilty of three counts of theft from high street supermarkets. His custodial sentence was activated after he had received a 16-month suspended sentence for four counts of theft in May 2024.

He was already subject to a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), banning him from Waitrose in Merstow Green, Home Bargains on Sinclair Retail Park and Boots on the Worcester Road Retail Park. The CBO began in August this year.

Schramm, of no fixed address, was sentenced to the full 16 months behind bars. Pc Matt Beards, of Evesham Town Centre Team, said: “The new Town Centre Team is pleased to bring Schramm to justice for his prolific shoplifting that has blighted the retail community of Evesham for some time.

"We do understand the impact shoplifting and acquisitive crime have on our local retailers and communities. We hope this court result shows we will always pursue criminals, and we will work hard to prevent future offending to help make Evesham safer.”
