Police called to massive Birmingham house party as 130 kids 'cause chaos and do balloons'
by Nick Horner, https://www.facebook.com/nickhornerjourno · Birmingham LivePolice were called to a massive house party as an estimated 130 revellers packed the address and sparked chaos outside. Officers were pictured in Westmead Crescent in Erdington as the bash at a short-term rental property listed on several letting websites threatened to spill out of control.
A neighbour said she was told the house had been ‘booked by a girl for five people to stay’ - but ‘people just kept turning up’. The landlady was said to have been called to the scene but those in the house ‘would not let her in’, it was claimed.
The party was said to have lasted for several hours from last Friday night, November 22, into well into the small hours of the following day. The neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: “Its a two-bedroom property, a small house. When the landlady went inside she could not move.

“There were people standing squashed in the lounge and up the stairs. There were girls running around our little Crescent. People were parking on neighbours’ lawns, and they were doing those balloon gas things. It was totally chaotic.
“When they eventually managed to get them out it was counted as 130 kids in the house altogether. This finally ended at 4.15am.
“We have never had any issues around our area as it's very quiet. It’s not the right place for a short-term rental property and a neighbour said if she could move, she would.”
Another neighbour, posting on social media, said she was disturbed in the early hours. She said: “I woke up at around 1am to a noise - looked out to see a large group of girls walking up the road, no big deal.
“I woke up again at around 2am and looked out this time to see the road full of police cars, police walking up and down the road, other cars and taxis everywhere around the Woodacre Road junction, and hoards of youngsters walking away from the Paget Green end. When I say hoards, it looked like people leaving a concert or something there were that many.”
Brumwish 2024 - buy a gift for a child in need
BrumWish 2024 is Birmingham Live's festive drive to get thousands of gifts to children and young people across our city - among them the homeless, the vulnerable, kids in care, kids who are poorly or struggling, and kids who have little.
There are THREE simple ways to help.
- Buy a new gift from the Brumwish 2024 Amazon giftlist. In just a click your donation will be whizzing its way to our volunteers at Edgbaston Stadium.
- Donate money to the appeal fund hosted by Thrive Together Birmingham - this will help pay for gifts for kids with specialist needs or specific wishes.
- Buy a gift and, even better, rope in friends, neighbours and workmates to do the same, then drop off your pressies at Edgbaston Stadium, Edgbaston Road, B5 7QU on Friday 6th December, 10am - 3pm; Saturday 7th December, 10am - 1pm; or Monday 9th December, 10am - 1pm. Volunteers will be there to help you. Please don't wrap your gifts. You can also drop off by arrangement until Monday 16th December - contact Louise on 07469 979286.
Thanks to our partnership with #Toys4Birmingham, every single gift will find a good home in the loving care of a child living in B&Bs or hotels, hostels or refuges, children receiving support from specialist organisations and charities, and families being supported by children's centres and charities around the city.
Making up the Brumwish and Toys4Birmingham gang are Thrive Together Birmingham, Birmingham Playcare Network, Warwickshire Cricket Foundation (the charitable arm of Warwickshire County Cricket Club), Birmingham Forward Steps and BirminghamLive/Birmingham Mail.
Thank you to Amazon UK and the amazing team at the Sutton Coldfield depot for their support.
The property is listed with Airbnb, booking.com and on the Birmingham Hotels site. It is described as a modern, luxury two-bedroom house, with ‘free WiFi, private parking and a garden’. It has a flat-screen TV and patio and a no smoking policy, according to the particulars.
Airbnb said it had no bookings through its platform for that address on Friday, November 22. A spokeswoman added: “Parties are banned on Airbnb, and we have seen a 75 percent drop in the number of party reports in the UK since we introduced this ban.
“Our reservation screening technology in the UK aims to help reduce the risk of disruptive parties by taking steps to identify potential higher-risk reservations and prevent those bookings from being made.” The spokeswoman said: “Our ground rules for guests help make clear our expectation to treat hosts, homes and neighbourhoods with respect, and we may remove users who violate our strict policies.”
BirminghamLive attempted to contact the host, but she declined to respond to our message. A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We were called to a report of a disturbance in Westmead Crescent, Birmingham, shortly before 11.30pm on 22 November. Officers attended, but no criminal offences were disclosed.”
