Motorists have been urged to spend a quarter of an hour with a bucket of soapy water to avoid the risk of serious accidents and hefty fines this November. As autumn draws to a close, the chilly and damp weather conditions are causing many roads to become muddied, which can easily splatter onto vehicles.

However, a spokesperson for vehicle cleaning product company LiquidTech emphasised that drivers should not let the weather deter them from regularly washing their car. They warned: "Despite the risks, there are thousands of drivers out there who are oblivious to the hot water they could find themselves in if they let their car get too dirty."

"Drivers might be shocked to receive a £1,000 fine if the letters and numbers of a number plate can't be read clearly. While a windscreen that is significantly obscured by dirt could see someone pulled over by the police."

Specifically, Liquid Tech advised drivers to keep all of their vehicle's windows clean to ensure good visibility of their surroundings, providing motorists with a better chance to quickly react to sudden scenarios on the road.

Drivers should also take a few moments to wash both number plates on the vehicle to ensure they are easily readable by other drivers and ANPR cameras, reports the Express.

Accumulating dirt could land road users in hot water, resulting in fines of up to £1,000 along with three penalty points which can push up insurance costs and even lead to a driving prohibition. Detailing experts at Liquid Tech advise drivers to clean other outside fixtures meticulously for safety purposes, such as their door mirrors and lights.

They further instructed: "As well as the number plate and windscreen, we recommend keeping head and rear lights clean along with mirrors inside and out."

They also mentioned the importance of an immaculate car interior: "And don't forget the interior too, as not only does having a clean car inside and out feel great, but it also means there will be no loose items that can hamper you while driving."
