The latest speeding figures, obtained by Legal Expert, have been released amid continued concerns around speeding in Birmingham, with police chiefs and council leaders determined to reduce the number of crashes on the city's roads.

Drivers are caught speeding in a variety of ways, including average speed cameras on roads they are operating and mobile police vans where they are not. The police vans, equipped with cameras, visit problem areas and park up at the side of roads to monitor the speed of traffic.

Those clocked going too fast are sent speeding tickets. Depending on how fast they were going, they may be offered the chance to take an educational course in order to escape a fine and penalty points. They still have to pay around £80 for the course, however, which is in effect the same as a fine.
