Sainsbury's statement following sudden Northfield store closure

A major supermarket chain has issued a statement after one of its stores was forced to close following a police incident. Sainsbury's in Northfield has been shut all day after a 15-year-old boy was found with serious stab wounds at the junction of Frankley Beeches Road and Bristol Road South at 12.50am on Monday.

The victim was given advanced trauma care at the scene before being conveyed to hospital where his wounds were described as 'life-threatening'. Two teenagers were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in custody.

A huge cordon was set up around the scene which meant Sainsbury's could not open. The city-bound section of the A38 remained closed for most of Monday while investigations took place.

A Sainsbury's spokesperson said, "Our Northfield superstore is currently closed to support the police with their investigation." They did not say when the store was expected to reopen.

West Midlands Police said: "We have arrested two teenagers after a 15-year-old boy was stabbed in Northfield in the early hours of this morning. We were called to the junction of Frankley Beeches Road and A38 Bristol Road South, at around 12.50am.

"He was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries, where he remains. We arrested two teenage boys on suspicion of attempted murder.

"A cordon is in place on A38 between Frankley Beeches Road and Lockwood Road while we forensically examine the area. We are in the early stages of our investigation and our officers working hard to establish the full details on the incident.
