Man arrested after woman dies in M40 horror pile-up

A woman died on the M40 between junction 11 and 12 on Saturday

A man has been arrested after a woman was killed in a horror crash on the M40. The collision happened just before 7.15pm on Saturday and involved five cars and a Peugeot Boxer van.

The woman who was a passenger in one of the cars and said to be in her 50s, died at the scene. The driver of the van was said to have fled the scene on foot and an appeal was put out by Warwickshire Police.

Today, The force posted on X: "Thank you to all who shared our appeal following a fatal collision on the M40. A 23-year-old man has today (30 September) been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving."

The motorway's northbound carriageway was shut just before 7.15pm on Saturday evening between junction 11 (Banbury) and junction 12 (Gaydon) after the collision.

Her next of kin has been informed and specially trained officers are supporting the family at this time. Police asked anyone with information to contact them quoting incident number 303 of 28 September.
