In a shocking display of recklessness, a driver caught speeding at 76mph in a 30mph zone told officers he did it because he "wanted to have a bit of a blast". The incident occurred on a dual carriageway in Birmingham, where the speed demon was spotted by a police patrol.

Captured on camera, the vehicle is seen zooming across a roundabout and then tearing down a back street at speeds close to 80mph. Upon being pulled over, the driver nonchalantly admitted to the police: "I just wanted to have a bit of blast," and conceded, "There's no excuse for it you know what I mean? ".

West Midlands Police have shared this footage as part of their 'Fatal 4' campaign targeting dangerous driving behaviours. Astonishingly, in the first half of this year alone, over 2,000 drivers were stopped by the force.

Out of these, 1,252 were nabbed for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, while 478 were caught speeding. Additionally, 144 individuals were found not wearing seatbelts, and 344 were using mobile phones while driving.

Further footage reveals a lorry driver using a mobile phone behind the wheel, and another video shows a mother with her child, neither wearing seatbelts. When questioned by officers about why the child wasn't secured in a child seat at the back, one officer firmly stated, "I don't want to hear excuses like 'child's removed the child seat'. That is totally unacceptable."

To the mother's surprise, the officer also noted, "You've not got your belt on either? ".
