Police attend crash outside petrol station in Saltley

Police attended a collision near to a notorious accident blackspot. Officers and a fire crew were called to Washwood Heath Road at around 7.40pm yesterday, Monday, November 4 to a crash just outside Saltley Gate service station.

The road was blocked for a short time while the emergency services dealt with the incident. There were not said to be any casualties according to locals.

One crew from Highgate Fire Station attended and made the scene safe. West Midlands Police has been contacted for comment.

Ishraq Hussain, prospective Liberal Democrat local election candidate, said: "I got there around 9.45pm and there was a police van there. I spoke to locals and the police and thankfully there were not any casualties.

"It's a busy island and a lot of collisions. I will take the concerns of locals to the council's cabinet member for transport."

Images taken from the scene showed airbags deployed and damage to the front of the vehicle. A highways team attended to repair the road which was later fully reopened.
