BBC The Wheel fans in floods of tears as contestant who got married in hospital bed wins 'life-changing' sum

The Wheel fans were left in floods of tears after a contestant revealed she would use her winnings to finally walk down the aisle - 10 years after she first got married in her hospital bed. Hala heartbreakingly revealed she had never got the chance to walk down the aisle on her wedding day after being diagnosed with a rare neurological condition which saw her confined to her hospital bed for a year.

She broke down as she won £21,500 on the BBC show as she revealed her life was 'going to change'. Hala told host Michael McIntyre: "I would love to put some of that money towards getting married and walking down the aisle. I didn't get the opportunity to do that before.

"So actually 10 years ago from this day I was suddenly hospitalised and as a result I lost the ability to walk. I was in hospital for a year.

"It was a really rare neurological condition that took a year to find out about." She said she was 'so grateful' to now be out of a wheelchair.

She revealed she had married her husband in her hospital "when things were really quite bad". She continued: "I couldn't walk down the aisle then and to be honest I never thought I would be able to walk.

"So to even have that anywhere, I just feel scared even talking about it. But the fact that it could even be a possibility is amazing."

Jonathan Ross helped her to win the big prize. Hala was asked who the usual bass guitarist was in the Beatles and was gutted as she admitted she didn't know.

But Jonathan came through, shouting: "Paul McCartney 100% it was Paul McCartney...I even went to his house one and he let me play his bass, that's how sure I am!"

He told her after her win was confirmed: "I actually cried. I haven't cried for 37 years. I'm so pleased for you."

Viewers flooded X, formerly Twitter, with emotional responses after the win. One wrote: "Floods of tears watching Hala on Michael McInytre's The Wheel. What a very worthy winner."

A second said: "Wasn’t on my bingo card to shed a few tears at #TheWheel tonight, what a deserving winner, Hala." A third added: "Never thought I’d be crying at #TheWheel."
