Police have issued a re-appeal for information after a sex attack on board a Birmingham-bound train. In a new statement British Transport Police confirmed: "We are still appealing for information."

A spokesman for the force said the victim boarded the train at Liverpool Lime Street heading to Birmingham New Street when the incident took place. Shortly after finding a seat, a man sat beside her and sexually assaulted her.

He also asked inappropriate questions, the force said. The incident took place at around 6.30pm on Saturday, July 27. But it was only last month that investigating detectives released an image of a man in connection with the sexual assault.

In a fresh statement on Friday, Nov 1, BTP said: "There is no update at this time, we are still appealing for information regarding the incident." Asked for more details on the offence itself, the force could not disclose any more information.

The original appeal said the man pictured may have information that could help the investigation. It read: "Do you recognise this man?

"Detectives investigating a sexual assault have released this image in connection. On Saturday, 27 July, at around 6.30pm, the victim boarded the train from Liverpool Lime Street heading to Birmingham New Street Station.

"Shortly after finding a seat, a man sat next to her sexually assaulting her and asking inappropriate questions. Detectives believe the man in the image may have information that could help with their investigation.

"Anyone who recognises him is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016, or by calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 533 28 July. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
