Three injured in Birmingham house fire tackled by 30 firefighters

A big blaze at a house in Birmingham led to emergency services rushing to the scene with three people requiring treatment. The fire took hold at a property in Blithfield Grove in Erdington on the Pitts Farm estate near Chester Road at around 7.30am on Tuesday (November 19).

Six fire engines with 30 firefighters, along with three ambulance crews, attended the incident at a two-storey terraced home. The fire was on the ground floor and also affected a neighbouring home.

Two women and a man were said to be in the property at the time of the fire but got out unaided. They suffered from smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service: “We were called to a fire at a private address on Blithfield Grove, Birmingham at 7.41am.

“We sent two ambulances and a paramedic officer to the scene where, on arrival, crews found three patients. The two women and a man were assessed for suspected smoke inhalation and conveyed to Good Hope Hospital.”

West Midlands Fire Service sent fire crews from Erdington, Sutton Coldfield, Perry Barr, Ward End, Aston and Ladywood to the incident. A spokesman for the brigade said: “Shortly before 7.25am on Tuesday (November 19), we responded to Blithfield Grove, Erdington. We sent six fire engines, the first arriving within four minutes of being mobilised.

“This was a fire on the ground floor of a two-storey mid-terraced house. The entire property was heavily smoke-logged. Three hose reels were used to extinguish the fire. A house next door was also affected by smoke logging.

“Two men and one woman freed themselves from the property before we arrived. It's understood all of them were conveyed to Good Hope Hospital for treatment after suffering smoke inhalation.

“Police colleagues were in attendance for a time this morning. Fire Investigators remain in attendance, and are being supported by a single crew from Erdington. All other resources left the scene.”
