Birmingham Road re-opens after serious incident by BP garage

Birmingham Road was closed off from the BP Garage to the WBA ground amid reports of a serious collision

A major Birmingham road has reopened following what is believed to be a 'serious collision'. Police and ambulances were sent to the BP Garage on Birmingham Road, just before junction one of the M5 motorway, around 9pm on Saturday night (Oct 5).

The road was subsequently closed by West Midlands Police in both directions from the petrol station to the West Bromwich Albion ground on Halfords Lane.

There were unverified reports on social media that a blue tent was set up at the scene. The road was said to have reopened around 5am on Sunday and when BirminghamLive visited the scene there was no emergency services present.

Police and other emergency services have been contacted for a statement and we will bring you this when we get it.

Sandwell Police posted on X: "Birmingham Road is currently closed near the junction with Halfords Lane following a serious collision just before 9pm. Motorists are urged to find alternative routes while officers remain on the scene."
