Plans to open 15 bedroom Birmingham apart-hotel in inner city ward

A plan has been submitted to turn part of a banqueting hall into a hotel in Sparkhill. Under proposals, the upper floor of 226 Solihull Road would be turned into a short stay holiday let with 15 bedrooms.

The exterior of the building would largely remain unaltered and there would be no parking provisions. The intended market is business and city breaks with guests able to stay from the minimum of a night to a maximum of 28 nights.

The windows and doors in the en-suite bedrooms would be have noise insulation upgrades. A CCTV camera system will be installed on the premises to provide a "secure and safe environment" for guests.

There are is no off-street parking provision but the proposed change is unlikely to "increase parking demand significantly". The area is also well served by public transportation links.

The application states: "There are existing bus stops along the Stratford Road and good local facilities within easy walking distance and easy access to birmingham -city-centre>Birmingham City Centre and beyond."

The planning statement concluded: "The proposal represents a sustainable use compatible with its location with economic benefits to the local area, also complies with relevant local and national planning polices, therefore approval should be granted."

The plan is due before Birmingham City Council at a future date.
