Shower cleaning hacks revealed

'Genius' hack to clean shower screens with kitchen staple

by · Birmingham Live

A 'genius' shower screen cleaning hack has been doing the rounds thanks to a kitchen staple that we all have. The TikTok user @theweescottycleaners uploaded a video claiming that a shower screen can be easily cleaned using nothing but a simple cloth and Fairy liquid.

A cleaner, who introduces herself as Clare, illustrated the process: "We are in a shower and this is one of our monthly cleans and the shower is quite grimy, Can you see the grime on the shower there? " She is then handed a bottle of detergent by a colleague, which she drizzles on a "wet, hot cloth". Clare further explained: "Not too much, because you don't want to have too much to have to come off."

Using the designated amount, Clare demonstrates that the soap on the cloth is sufficient to clean two panes and then wipes it across the glass.

She noted: "Now you can feel the grime sticking to your cloth and we know when it's all coming off when it starts to go smooth."

Without the need for water or spray once the task is complete, Clare showcases a glass cloth, adding, "Once that's done you don't even need any water or any spray on it. Let me just show you this, a glass cloth, that you cannot buy anywhere apart from us. These are not available in shops. You don't need a squidgy, how good is that? ", reports the Mirror.

Her colleague Hazel commented: "You would actually think there's no glass there now, do you see that? Do you see how that has all come off? Now that shower has not been cleaned for a month."

Clare chimed in, "That same cloth is just about to do this one as well. That's how heavy duty these are, they are thick" as she presented the lime-coloured cloth, adding, "Look it's still bone dry and that is going to do my whole shower."

Despite the impressive claims, some viewers were skeptical, with more than 3600 comments on the video. A doubtful commenter retorted: "Not a chance in a hard water area, need limescale remover on glass, Fairy liquid and the best cloth in the world wouldn't do a thing".

However, professionals have thrown their weight behind the cleaning method, with one exclaiming, "I have a cleaning company, I invested in these cloths and there's not looking back! ! Very little effort for a streak-free finish."

The Mirror shed light on some alternative methods, mentioning John from MeandMyGlass.co.uk who recommends natural products like lemon and lime for tackling stubborn marks, plus using salt for combating hard-water build-up. Lemon and lime are effective on shower screens thanks to their acidity dissolving stains.

Mix the fruits with white vinegar and water, use a damp microfibre cloth to cleanse your screen in circular motions, then rinse away for a sparkling finish.

Salt, on the other hand, can be used to eliminate hard-water deposits on a screen. For an extra cleaning hack, sprinkle some salt onto a lemon and scrub the screen for maximum effect.

White toothpaste can also be utilised to get rid of soap scum from the shower door. Apply some onto an old toothbrush to tackle those tricky corners.
