Police break up 'illegal rave' at Derbyshire quarry site
by Louis Corbett · Derbyshire LivePolice have made several arrests after they were called to reports of an illegal rave in a former Derbyshire quarry. Officers said a number of people were dispersed following a gathering at Halldale Quarry, a former limestone quarry near Matlock, on Sunday evening, November 3.
Police said several vehicles were stopped with some individuals arrested on suspicion of possession of class A and class B drugs whilst in control of a motor vehicle.
A statement on the Matlock, Cromford, Wirksworth and Darley Dale Police SNT Facebook page read: "Driving under the influence poses a serious risk to everyone on the road, and we will continue to take action against those who choose to put others in harm's way.
"We would like to thank the community's vigilance and cooperation. Together, we can keep our communities safer."
Plans to build more than 200 homes on the former quarry site were approved by councillors on Derbyshire Dales District Council's planning committee last year. The former quarry had stood derelict for two decades.
