Update as man injured after roof fire at house in Derbyshire town

Fire crews are re-inspecting a property on Friday morning after a blaze in a house on Thursday afternoon (November 21) left one man injured. Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service (DFRS) were called to the house in Park Street, Heanor at about 3.45pm and found the roof well alight.

Firefighters attended the scene from Ilkeston, Alfreton and Ripley supported by Nottinghamshire crews from Eastwood and discovered that the male casualty was out of the property on their arrival.

Final fire crews left the scene at 8.30pm, once all hot spots had been extinguished and left the incident in the care of Derbyshire police to maintain a cordon overnight.

Firefighters from Heanor were expecting to attend the reinspection on Friday morning. At the height of the fire on Thursday, people were urged to avoid the area by the fire service.

Derbyshire police added: "We were called to reports of a fire at a house in Park Street, Heanor, at 3.50pm on Thursday, November 21. At the scene a man was found with serious burns and was taken to hospital where he remains.

"A fire investigation remains ongoing but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances."
