If you possess a particular 2p coin, you may have just hit the jackpot. Collectors and change savers have been left buzzing after the revelation that two old pennies fetched an eye-watering price online.

A recent auction saw one such coin snapped up for a whopping £127,000, making headlines. In a new twist, a prominent TikTok user, @CoinCollectingWizard, who boasts an impressive following of 198,000, has unveiled a video on his channel where he cleans a coin estimated to be valued at £1,000, reports the Mirror.

He told his followers: "Did you know about the New Pence 2p coin worth £1,000? Don't worry though this one is 1971 and not the rare date." He went on to advise his viewers on what specific versions of the New Pence coins to watch out for, adding a crucial piece of information.

"Want to know what rare New Pence coins to look out for, keep watching. After the design changed from New Pence to Two Pence in 1982, a mistake was made during production of a small number of 1983 coins," he added.

During the clip, the coin expert elaborated, pointing out the rare coins were accidentally stamped with New Pence instead of Two Pence, highlighting the factor that makes them so unique. "If it says New Pence on the reverse instead of the words Two Pence then you have found it."

Wrapping up his educational snippet, he let slip a tantalising tip: "If you are lucking enough to find a 1983 New Pence 2p in your change, then it is worth around £1,000. You are more likely to find the coin in the 1983 Royal Mint set though as this is where the mistake happened."

Collectors are abuzz over rare minting errors on certain coins which, at one time, fetched upwards of £400. Today, their value could have soared even higher, a coin enthusiast suggests. Such faulty pieces are now deemed highly sought after due to a small batch that contained errors in the wording.

These anomalies render the coins extremely collectible, with those from pre-1983 titled 'New Pence' being less valuable unless they showcase this specific error. The revelation on TikTok has attracted a slew of likes and comments from the community.

One TikToker exclaimed: "I have it," while another warned against a common numismatic faux pas: "Worst thing to do on a coin." Echoing the sentiment, another user concurred: "Never clean coins."
