Police name man charged with attempted murder after serious Derby Abbey Street assault

The victim remains in hospital in critical condition

A man has been charged with attempted murder following a serious assault that left a man in a critical condition in hospital. Abdusalam Hassan was arrested following reports of an assault in Abbey Street at around 7.20pm on Wednesday (October 2).

The 26-year-old, of Burton Road, Derby, was charged with attempted murder on Friday (October 4) and has been remanded in police custody. He is due to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court on Friday afternoon.

The victim of the assault, a man in his 20s, remains in hospital in a critical condition. A spokesperson for Derbyshire police said: "A man has been charged with attempted murder following a serious assault in a Derby street.

"Officers remain keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or may be able to assist the investigation. You can contact us by using the reference 24*583333."
