Ilhan Omar says Clarence Thomas 'needs to be impeached'

Time to impeach Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, says one member of Congress.

Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Minnesota Democrat, made the declaration Thursday in response to leaked text messages obtained by the House Committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot that show the justice's wife, conservative activist Ginni Thomas, pressing former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows to overturn the 2020 election.

"Clarence Thomas needs to be impeached," Omar said in a tweet.

The tweet to which the congresswoman was responding also noted that Clarence Thomas was the one justice who voted to deny former President Donald Trump's request for a stay of a lower court mandate that his presidential records be turned over to the Jan. 6 committee.

GINNI THOMAS WANTED TO 'RELEASE THE KRAKEN'

Among the documents obtained by the panel was a never-used draft executive order to seize voting machines.

The only Supreme Court justice to have been impeached was Justice Samuel Chase in 1805 for conduct on the bench that was deemed overly partisan. He was acquitted by the Senate.

Ginni Thomas insisted to the Washington Free Beacon this month that she and her husband keep their careers completely separate from one another. “Clarence doesn’t discuss his work with me, and I don’t involve him in my work,” she said.

Clarence Thomas was hospitalized last week with "flu-like symptoms." The high court has remained silent on his condition since making the announcement about his admittance to the hospital.
