Derbyshire woman died after collision with lorry

She passed away ten days later in hospital

An inquest into the death of an elderly woman in a village in the Peak District National Park has heard she was rushed to hospital following a collision with a lorry.

Barbara Olive Boxall, 83, was crossing the Main Road in Darley Bridge on Friday, November 15, 2019, when she was struck by the lorry as it pulled forward. The inquest was told Mrs Boxall, who lived on Orchard Croft in Darley Bridge, Matlock, was rushed to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham as a result of the grave injuries sustained in the collision.

Assistant Coroner for Derby and Derbyshire, Susan Evans, told the hearing the HGV lorry had been intending to travel north across the bridge in the Darley Bridge village on the day of the collision. However, the lorry drove off the main road and onto Wenslees Lane to allow another HGV, travelling in the opposite direction, to cross the bridge.

The HGV lorry reversed back onto the main road as soon as it was clear to do so, but as it pulled forward it struck Mrs Boxall. Barbara Boxall, who was a retired business owner along with her husband, John Harold Boxall, spent ten days at The Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham.

Despite the best efforts of medics, she passed away on Monday, November 25, 2019, from bronchopneumonia and chest Injuries sustained in the collision. Concluding the inquest Mrs Evans said Mrs Boxall has passed away as a result of a road traffic collision.
