Bungoma Senator, Moses Wetangula, has issued a statement in response to reports that he was holed up in a meeting with former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga.

In a statement on his Twitter account, the Ford Kenya party leader refuted claims that he was meeting with his ODM party counterpart to strike a deal that would see him ditch Deputy President William Ruto's-led Kenya Kwanza faction for Azimio La Umoja.

The former ally of Raila stated that he was still in Kenya Kwanza and was holding talks with some of his party members at the headquarters.

"I have had a busy moment at Ford Kenya party Headquarters receiving, advising, and encouraging our candidates in preparation for party primaries. Kenya Kwanza is the valid dream and hope for Kenya under the leadership of Ruto and ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi," he stated.

Reports of Wetangula meeting Raila surfaced on social media in the early morning of Friday, March 25, as many questioned his silence in recent past.

However, leaders allied to the DP came out in defense of the Senator, affirming that Wetangula was focused on the Kenya Kwanza alliance.

In a tweet, digital strategist Dennis Itumbi claimed that the rumors were started by their opponents, adding that the reports were not adding up.

"Moses Masika Wetangula is firm with the hustler nation securing the promise of Kenya Kwanza. Let them continue with their rumors. If you see them, just tell them, even lying requires a little knowledge," Itumbi stated.

The reports come after Wiper leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, stated that he would hold discussions with Wetangula to entice him into joining the Raila-led faction. At the time, he stated that he missed the Senator, describing him as a brother and friend.

"I tell you, I miss Wetangula because I have suffered and struggled with him. So don't be surprised if he joins me. I pray every day and night for Wetangula to leave Kenya Kwanza and join Azimio La Umoja," Kalonzo stated.

However, the Ford Kenya party leader responded stating that he would not partner with Raila ahead of the August polls, citing betrayal in the NASA coalition. Instead, he promised to woo the wiper boss to his side.

"We are incomplete without him so it is mutual because nobody can deny that he is my best political friend in Kenya and I’m his best political friend. He was pulled by the boss to where he is. I am in no doubt that he is in some certain degree of discomfort,” he stated.
