Holness backs tourism workers’ protests, announces fee waivers for craft vendors

· The Gleaner

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says his administration supports workers in the tourism industry who have been involved in a wave of protests gripping the sector in the last month.

"Tourism continues to be the industry that lays the golden egg. We must protect the tourism industry and ensure that it continues to grow in a sustainable way. We support the workers of the tourism industry as they seek fair compensation and better work conditions," he said on Sunday.

"We will do our part to facilitate the negotiations and to ease the cost of living burden on the works in the tourism industry," he added.

Holness also announced that fees will be waived for vendors who operate in government-owned craft markets for December and January.

Outstanding fees will also be waived.
