Thousands of homeowners to receive Local Property Tax warning this week
by Megan Martin · RSVP LiveRevenue has issued letters to thousands of homeowners in the past few days warning them to set up a payment method for the Local Property Tax (LPT) next year.
The letters will be sent to those who filed a property tax return this year, but have not yet informed Revenue how they wish to pay it next year.
The 2025 LPT payment is not due until January, however anyone who wishes to spread the payments over 12 months needs to inform Revenue by Monday, 2 December.

If people wish to pay the tax in full, they have until Friday, 10 January to tell Revenue. Those who already have a recurring payment method (aka an annual debt instruction) in place do not need to take any action. Deductions at source will begin in January next year. Annual debit instruction payments will be processed on March 21.
Homeowners can also opt for a monthly direct debit to be taken from their bank account to pay the tax, or the tax can be paid through deduction at source, where the money is taken from wages or a pension. Monthly direct debit payments will begin on January 15, and on the 15th day of each month after that.
“Where any of these payment methods were used to pay the 2024 LPT liability in respect of a property, that payment method will automatically carry forward and apply for the 2025 LPT liability and no further action will be required,” Revenue told the Irish Independent.
However, property owners who paid the tax in full this year by cheque, debit or credit card, or through a payment service provider such as An Post, do not have a recurring payment method in place and they will need to make arrangements to pay their LPT for next year.
This also applies to those who paid the tax last year by using an annual debit instruction, direct debit or deduction at source, but manually opted out of the automatic carry-forward payment arrangements.
Letters are also going out to people who have a newly liable property, which includes newly-built homes that were completed after November 1 last year, and before November 1 this year. It also includes properties that became occupied or suitable for use as a home after November 1 last year.
These owners will need to file an LPT return with Revenue.
