Aldi issues urgent food recall over fears it could be 'serious health risk'

by · NottinghamshireLive

Aldi has issued an urgent recall of its Let's Party Vegetable Bao Buns, following concerns that the product may cause serious allergic reactions due to undeclared sesame. The retailer warned that these bao buns, sold in packs of eight, might also contain unlisted duck meat, posing further health risks to those with allergies.

Customers have been told not to eat the buns and return them to any Aldi store for a full refund. All 'best before' dates are affected, with the buns identified by the barcode number: 4061463842909.

In a statement, Aldi said: "Our supplier is recalling Let's Party Vegetable Bao Buns due to an error meaning some products contain an undeclared allergen (sesame) as well as duck meat which is not listed on the packaging. This may present a health risk to anyone with a sesame allergy."

The supermarket also offered apologies adding: "We apologise this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation."

Customers with concerns can contact Aldi on 0800 042 0800 in the UK or use the company's webform, reports the Mirror.

The news from Aldi follows a recent product recall by Tesco, which involved their Tesco Finest All Butter Pastry Mince Pies. The potential presence of dried glue pieces led to warnings concerning pies with best before dates ranging from October 4, 2024, to November 10, 2024.

For further information, customers can contact the Tesco Customer Service Team on 0800 505 555. Similarly, the Co-op has withdrawn its Co-op Irresistible Luxury Lasagne Al Forno from shelves due to undeclared mustard and sulphites, posing a potential health risk to anyone with an allergy to mustard, sulphur dioxide or sulphites.

The recall applies to products with a use-by date of November 17, 2024 - all other dates are deemed safe to eat. Customers who purchased the product online can receive a refund by calling 0330 041 7737.

Alternatively, they can contact the customer careline on 0800 0686 727 or email via the product issues or returns section of the Co-op website. For updates on all product recalls, customers can check the Food Standards Agency and Chartered Trading Standards Institute websites.
