Hwy. 5 interchange to close

An interchange at River Street connecting downtown Kamloops to Highway 5 will be closed to traffic next week due to work by the provincial Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

According to the Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association, the road closure will take place from Tuesday, Nov. 12 to Monday, Nov. 18.

“Please use Battle Street to access downtown from Highway 5,” the BIA said. “River Street will be accessible from Tenth Avenue.”

Access to downtown from the highway has already been restricted. Last week, the ministry announced it had installed a median blocking northbound highway traffic from turning left on to River Street.

The ministry said the traffic change was due to safety concerns, especially as more drivers were using the turn after the Red Bridge collapsed due to a fire in September.
