The Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen has hired a managing director for a newly-created department known as Development and Infrastructure Services.

Allen Fillion is the pick to head the department, coming to the role from West Kelowna and, previously, the City of Nelson.

"Allen brings more than 20 years of local government experience to his new role,” said Jim Zaffino, RDOS chief administrative officer.

“His leadership skills and operations background will serve the region well.”

Fillion said in a press release that he is "extremely excited" to join the RDOS.

"I look forward to sharing my passion for collaboration and forward-thinking approach to addressing the unique challenges and opportunities facing the region and ensuring a high quality of life through good governance."

Fillion was a hockey coach to his kids growing up and hopes to do more coaching in years to come. He will join the RDOS in his new role on Oct. 21.
