Brad Thorlakson has been honoured for his decades of work in the forest industry.

The executive chairman of Vernon-based Tolko Industries recently received the Forest Products Association of Canada (FPAC) Lifetime Achievement Award.

The FPAC Awards of Excellence are given to champions of sustainable forestry whose contributions have made a profound impact advancing the environmental, social and economic benefits of Canadian forestry across the country.

“This year’s recipients have each gone above and beyond in service to Canada’s forest sector, the environment, their communities, and their peers,” said Derek Nighbor, FPAC president and CEO.

“As the calls for action on wildfires, safe and affordable housing, and economic growth get louder , our 2024 recipients have been leaders in making sure Canadian forestry is part of the solution and know it can deliver even more for Canadians.”

Thorlakson served as Tolko’s president and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) from 2010 to 2024 before transitioning to the role of executive chairman.

He began his career at the Lavington Planer Mill and advanced to become Vice-President of Marketing and Sales before assuming the role of president and CEO. He was the third generation of the Thorlakson family to lead Tolko.

In addition to his current role, Thorlakson serves as a member of the Forest Products Association of Canada and director and co-chair on the BC Lumber Trade Council. He is an active member of the BC Manufacturers’ Advisory Group (MAG) CEO Safety Committee and represents Canada West on the Softwood Lumber Board.
