Massive protests would be organised if the State government did not address the key demands of Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association (TNGEA), said A. Selvam, its general secretary, here on Friday.

He announced this at the inaugural event of a two-day state conference organised by the TNGEA. Speaking to the media, Mr. Selvam said that revoking the new pension scheme (NPS) and reinstating the old pension scheme (OPS) is a key demand. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, while in Opposition , promised to fulfil this demand upon coming to power, but he has not done so, he said.

They further demanded filling up of six lakh government jobs lying vacant, reinstatement of surrendered leave benefits and abolition of outsourcing and contract employment. He also called for proper time scale pay for 3.5 lakh employees, including noon meal workers and anganwadi staff.

He urged the government to provide cashless medical treatment through an insurance scheme and also address other key demands. He highlighted that while the government has accepted these demands none of them had been implemented even after 42 months in office.

Mr. Selvam also criticised the Chief Minister’s silence stating, “Government employees play a vital role in bringing this government to power for the sixth time, yet the Chief Minister remains silent on our demands despite meeting him eight times.” He added that they had lost faith in the present government.
