No valid bid connecting Ulundurpet airstrip received so far, says Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduUnion Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said in the Lok Sabha on Thursday that the airstrip at Ulundurpet in Villupuram Parliamentary constituency had not been taken up for revival under the government’s regional connectivity scheme (RCS), also known as Udan, as no valid bid had been received so far.
In his reply to an unstarred question raised by Villupuram Member of Parliament D. Ravikumar, the Minister said RCS is a demand-driven ongoing scheme where bidding rounds were conducted from time to time to cover more destinations/stations and routes, and the airline operators assess the feasibility of operations on a particular route and then submit bids, he said.
“Revival, upgradation of unserved and underserved airports is carried out upon its identification through valid bid and award to the Selected Airline Operator. Five rounds of bidding have so far been completed under the scheme. However, no valid bid connecting Ulundurpet airstrip has so far been received. Therefore, the airstrip at Ulundurpet has not been taken up for revival under UDAN,” he said.
