G. Padmavathi, Chairperson, Karnataka State Women Development Corporation, on Tuesday advised women to avail benefits and loans extended to them by the State government through the corporation instead of seeking loans and financial help from micro finance institutions.

Ms. Padmavathi was speaking after presiding over the progress review meeting of the corporation at the Stree Shakti Bhavan here in Vijayanagar. She said a sum of ₹95 crore had been released to the corporation for its activities and programmes and added that the government has launched various programmes for women including the guarantee schemes. Women can travel free in buses across the State because of the Shakti guarantee.

She said the Lead Bank has not released ₹58 crore subsidy to the beneficiaries and this issue has come to light in districts she visited after taking over the corporation. Therefore, the corporation was planning to directly release the subsidy and also recover loans from the borrowers. The proposal is before the State government and it is expected to come into effect from next year, Ms. Padmavathi stated.

The corporation chairperson said a meeting will be convened with the Lead Bank officials here to take steps to release loans and subsidy to all the applicants if details of pending applications from all 11 Assembly constitutions were submitted to her. She told the officials to make best use of their posts and help the people in need as it is not easy to get government jobs.

Lead Bank in-charge Manager Pradeep said the pending applications for loans or subsidy of women will be cleared after a meeting with the representatives at the taluk-level and clear the applications by next week.

Shree Shakti Federation Chairperson Premkumari said more women-centred programmes will be launched in the days ahead and the women must make best use of the programmes for their empowerment and shaping their future.

Deputy Director of Women and Child Development B. Basavaraju, and others were present.
