Steps have been initiated to restore Punchathodu, a canal that once flowed through Vyttila, Ponnurunni, and Palarivattom but has since become clogged with waste.

The initiative is part of the ‘Ini Njan Ozhukatte’ campaign of the Haritha Keralam Mission (HKM), which focuses on cleaning and reviving waterbodies in collaboration with local bodies and through public participation. Punchathodu remains stagnant owing to blockages caused by plastic and wastewater dumped by households and traders.

Former State Human Rights Commission Chairman and former district judge P. Mohanadas inaugurated the restoration works of the canal at a function held at Ponnurunni in the city on Tuesday. Corporation councillors and HKM office-bearers were present.
