Drug seizure: two sentenced to rigorous imprisonment

The Ernakulam Additional Sessions Court sentenced two persons to rigorous imprisonment in a case registered in connection with the seizure of heroin worth ₹18 crore from the Kochi airport.

The convicts are Muraleedharan of Perinthalmanna and a Nigerian national. They were sentenced to 40 years and 16 years imprisonment and slapped with a fines of ₹4 lakh and ₹1.50 lakh respectively.

The Customs department made the seizure when Muraleedharan arrived at the airport from Harare via Doha on August 21, 2022. Around 18 kg of heroin was seized from his luggage. He was about to board the flight to Delhi. His interrogation led to the arrest of the Nigerian who had come to take delivery of the drug at the Delhi airport.
