Milk production has increased in T.N., says Minister

Citing figures from the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Dairy Development R.S. Rajakannappan said on Thursday that the milk production has increased to 10.31 MT during 2023.

In a statement, the Minister said the milk production during 2020 was 8.75 MT but increased to 10.31 MT during 2023.

“The per capita availability which was 316 gram during 2019-20 has increased to 369 gram during 2022-23,” he said to underline that the performance of Tamil Nadu’s Dairy Development Department.

Incentives to the tune of ₹27.60 lakh were given to workers of district cooperative milk producers’ unions during 2022-23, he said. It was ₹25.85 lakh during 2023-24.

Mr. Rajakannappan said bonus to the tune of ₹1,951 lakh was granted to over 1.39 lakh milk producers during 2022-23. “A cattle insurance scheme is being implemented with 85% subsidy to cover 5 lakh cattle,” he added.
