The Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi’s district unit has sought more time for shops in the Palayam market to move to a temporary arrangement in connection with the market renovation as part of the SmartCity project.

KVVES district unit president A.K.M. Aseem said petitions had been submitted to the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Corporation Secretary against the move of officials to allow only three days for traders to shift to the temporary facility. It was understood from talks held with higher-ups in the civic body that they were not aware of a notice issued to shift the shops in such a short duration.

Requirements

The temporary facility did not have electricity connection or water supply. Adequate time should be made available to make arrangements in the new facility for traders to shift there, he said.

The KVVES would fully support developmental activities taken up by the Corporation as part of the SmartCity project. That is why the traders had been asked to shift to the new facility despite the limited space there. However, the notice issued without the knowledge of the Corporation higher-ups asking traders to shift there in three days was impractical. The order should be corrected and adequate time given to traders to make the move, Mr. Aseem said in a statement.
