Pamban bridge has been cleared by Commissioner of Railway Safety, says Southern Railway General Manager

by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduSouthern Railway General Manager R. N. Singh said that Commissioner of Railway Safety has already given permission for operating trains on the new Pamban Railway Bridge.
“The CRS has made certain observations which is routine. Those issues would be attended to within a week’s time and train operation (on the bridge) would begin very soon. There is no concern on that,” Mr. Singh told reporters while inspecting the development works under way at Sivaganga Railway Station on Friday.
He was accompanied by senior railway officials, including Madurai Divisional Railway Manager Sharad Srivastava, and Chief Project Manager Gati Shakti, K. Harikumar.
At Sivaganga, the General Manager inspected passenger amenities such as the circulating area and waiting hall. The height of platform 2 and 3 has been upgraded at a cost of ₹77 lakh, and platform extension work for 24-coach train is underway at ₹55 lakh. A ramp for differently-abled passengers is also being constructed, a statement said.
Over 88% of station development works under the Amrit Bharat Scheme, has been completed at Karaikudi railway station at a cost of ₹7.51 crore. Integrated passenger information systems and three lifts have been installed on various platforms. Platform roof replacement, covered parking for four-wheelers and a waiting hall works have been completed. Construction of a canopy, entrance arch and two-wheeler parking were nearing completion, along with improvements to the circulating area and approach road.
