Vision Andhra-2047 targets an ambitious growth rate of 50%, says Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has said the Vision Andhra-2047 document targets a 50% growth rate, setting an ambitious goal for the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP).

“The target is to increase the GSDP, which is at present below $3,000, by 15 times to make it $42,000 in the next 23 years,” Mr. Naidu said while addressing the District Collectors on the first day of the two-day conference that began at the Secretariat in Amaravati on December 11, 2024 (Wednesday).

“The Collectors have to think innovatively in planning and execution to achieve these results,” Mr. Naidu insisted.

The document also outlined the government’s vision on ‘Gross District Domestic Product (GDDP) estimates at current prices’.

In 2022-23, the GDDP of Visakhapatnam was ₹1,19,268 crore, he said, adding the target was to reach ₹2,64,781 crore by 2028-29, with the industries and services sectors playing a significant role in achieving it.

“The once backward districts such as Anantapur, Kurnool, and Kadapa have made significant progress due to the promotion of horticultural crops that are suited to the local climate. East Godavari district, which is once highly developed, is lagging due to the lack of industries, slow growth in the services sector, and continued reliance on traditional crops such as rice and coconut. The failure to integrate the knowledge economy into the region’s economic model is the key reason for the backwardness,” Mr. Naidu observed.

In such circumstances, the Collectors should take the initiative to think differently and promote comprehensive development in their respective districts based on local conditions, the Chief Minister said.

“Innovative thinking in planning and execution is essential to achieve the desired result. It is only when per capita income increases the standard of living improves. The Collectors should work accordingly to achieve this,” he added.

Earlier, Principal Secretary (Planning) Piyush Kumar, explained the Vision Andhra-2047 document.

Key topics such as zero poverty, P-4 model, and demographic management were highlighted, and actions taken in these areas were being discussed, he said.

About 4% of the State’s population, or approximately 2.2 million people, were living below the poverty line. Following NITI Aayog’s guidelines, plans were being made to uplift the poor.

“Action is being taken to improve infrastructure through the P-4 model that stands for public-private-people partnership,” he said.

Mr. Kumar said as part of demographic management, steps were underway to formulate a population management policy in collaboration with relevant departments.

“The GSDP was 13.50% during 2014-19. Due to COVID-19 and other issues, it fell to 10.59% in 2019-24,” he added.

Achieving an annual growth rate of 15% was essential to reach the milestones of Swarnandhra-2047. “The government is implementing various policies to ensure the necessary growth. Policies are being developed to prepare a five-year vision action plan at the constituency level,” he added.
