Smart India Hackathon inaugurated at KLETU

KLE Technological University hosts the local version of SIH Hardware Edition on its campus in Hubballi

KLE Technological University (KLETU), Hubballi, hosted the local inauguration of the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2024 Hardware Edition on its campus on Wednesday, with Regional Consultant from the Central Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell Sourabh R. Nirmale participating in it as chief guest.

Addressing the participants after the inauguration, Mr. Nirmale said that Smart India Hackathon is not just a competition but a celebration of innovation.

“India has been the land of ideas and innovations, from Aryabhata’s Mathematics to landing on the moon. SIH provides a tremendous opportunity to solving real-world problems, enabling solutions that benefit industries, the government and the common people,” he said, asking the participants to seize the opportunity and make the best use of it.

Vice-Chancellor of KLE Technological University Prakash Tewari said that while the university has hosted three software editions of the hackathon previously, it is for the first time that it is hosting the hardware edition.

He said that with a growing global population, India should address the real-world problems and stay a step ahead of the world.

Registrar of KLETU Basavaraj Anami, B.L. Desai, Nalini Iyer, Suneet Budihal, Shivashankar Hudda and others attended the local inaugural session.

The national-level inauguration of the hackathon was organised in the virtual mode with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurating it. He said that the world is looking up to youth for solutions.

During this year’s hackathon, over 250 problem statements have been submitted by 54 Ministries, departments, State governments, PSUs and industries and 49,000 students across the nation are participating in the national round.

Challenges include 17 major themes such as Healthcare, Sustainability, Emerging Technologies and Disaster Management.
