The State government has decided to procure an additional 25,000 tonnes of soybean produced in the Kharif/Vanakalam season this year. This will be in addition to the 59,000 tonnes of soybean already procured through Markfed at the minimum support price of ₹4,892 per quintal.

Minister for Agriculture Tummala Nageswara Rao issued instruction to the Markfed authorities on Tuesday to procure the additional quantity, stating that the decision was taken keeping in mind the interests of farmers and based on the representations from the District Collectors and elected representatives. Accordingly, the procurement of additional soybean was taken up at 49 purchase centres.

The Minister stated that the State government had already written to the Centre to allow the State to procure 25,000 tonnes of additional soybean and the proposal was under the examination to ensure MSP to farmers. However, keeping in mind the farmers’ interests, the State government had taken up the procurement not waiting for the Centre’s nod.
