NIT-T hosts convention on structural engineering

The role of structural engineering and the need for innovation and resilience in infrastructure dominated the discussions at the “Structural Engineering Convention (SEC) 2024” that got under way at the National Institute of Technology – Tiruchi (NIT-T) on Thursday.

N. Anandavalli, Director, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC), Chennai; T. K. Datta, emeritus professor, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) - Delhi; Tarun Kant, emeritus professor, IIT - Bombay and founder-president of the Indian Association for Structural Engineering (IASE) were among the special invitees at the inaugural ceremony on Thursday.

NIT-T director G. Aghila urged young engineers to embrace advanced technologies and develop solutions to tackle the critical challenges faced by the industry.

K. Baskar, chairman of SEC-2024, provided an overview of the convention, elaborating on its focus areas, including green material and computational advancements in structural design.

The three-day programme, in its 14th edition, has over 400 participants, including 45 keynote speakers and 11 plenary speakers, with experts from the U.S., Canada, and Portugal in attendance.
