Construction of road under bridge near Nellore’s Venktachalam under way: Railway Minister

Tirupati MP Maddila Gurumoorthy asked the Centre in Parliament whether it has received proposals for a Road under Bridge (RUB) near Venktachalam in SPSR Nellore district. He demanded to know its status and the stipulated time for its completion.

“The work of RUB in lieu of Level Crossing (LC) No. 106 at km. 155/12-14 on Gudur-Vijayawada section [the RUB near Venktachalam] has been taken up as a part of Vijayawada-Gudur station third line project. The work of Road over Bridge (ROB) at Venkatachalam yard was also sanctioned at cost of ₹50 crore,” Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw said in response.

He further said: “The proposals/requests/suggestions/representations for ROBs/RUBs across the country are received on the basis of demands raised by State governments, MPs, [other] elected representatives, Railways’ own requirements, organisations/rail users, etc ... receipt of such proposals/complaints/suggestions is a continuous and dynamic process and centralised compendium of such requests is not maintained. However, these are examined and action, as found feasible and justified, is taken from time to time.”

The Union Minister further said: “The completion and commissioning of ROB/RUB works depends on various factors like cooperation of State governments in giving consent for closure of LC, fixing of approach alignment, approval of General Arrangement Drawing, land acquisition, removal of encroachment, shifting of infringing utilities, statutory clearances from various authorities, law and order situation in the area of project/work sites, duration of working season in a year for the particular project/area due to climatic conditions, etc. All these factors affect the completion time of the projects/ works.”
