SSS district officials told to improve support to MSMEs
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduDistrict Collector T.S. Chetan on Wednesday directed the officials to expedite the survey on promoting MSMEs. The Collector was chairing the District Industries and Export Promotion Committee Meeting here. He underscored the necessity of supporting through loans entrepreneurs willing to establish industries within the district.
In the meeting, it was decided to expedite the approval of pending permits for ten industries listed within the single desk portal. Entrepreneurs had submitted 3,994 applications for various approvals and permissions necessary for establishing new industrial units. Of these, 3,883 were approved and 51 rejected.
Under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), the Centre provides loans ranging between ₹20 lakh to ₹50 lakh to encourage the unemployed to establish businesses.
The Collector instructed that loans should be readily available for qualified entrepreneurs and ordered the officials to implement measures to establish industries in plots allocated for the purpose. They should thorough evaluate the applications, compile a list of eligible candidates and direct the appropriate authorities to take timely action.
The Collector reviewed the actions taken by the Industries Department regarding new industries. He directed the officials to ensure that permits relating to industrial units are granted within established timelines.
