The Government industrial training institute (ITI) campus at Chala will be raised to a skill hub in future, Minister for General Education and Labour V. Sivankutty has said.

He was speaking after inaugurating Government ITI at Chala in the Nemom Assembly constituency here on Thursday.

Mr. Sivankutty said five trades had been sanctioned at the ITI – 3D printing, multimedia animation and special effect, robotic and digital manufacturing technician, welder, and marine fitter. These trades would help exploit the possibilities of the modern times as well as those of the Vizhinjam port.

Schemes would be implemented through the Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence (KASE) to provide additional skills training to the ITI trainees. Steps were on to set up a skill tower that would contain headquarters of the Industrial Training department, Employment department, and KASE on the campus.

Construction of a career development centre under the Employment department at Karamana was in the last phase, the Minister said.

The government intended to revamp ITIs in the State. Steps would be taken to sanction new trades and replace obsolete ones, improve basic infrastructure, and sanction adequate number of trades so that they are eligible for National Council for Vocational Education and Training, the Minister said.
