Plans for 'pump track' for bikers in Trafford
by Nick Jackson · Manchester Evening NewsPlans for a ‘pump track’ in Partington where cyclists can learn to perform daring stunts have been tabled. Trafford council has applied to its own planning authority for permission to build the tack on land at Cross Lane.
A pump track is an all-wheeled sports facility in a closed loop. If approved, it will provide a technical learning facility for different disciplines where riders can go to relax, ride themselves but also to watch others perform and socialise.
A learning rider will initially pedal or push around the loop, but as their speed and skill increased they are able to generate speed from corners and rollers without pedalling or pushing, which is the overall concept of a pump track. Part of the plan is a 3,200sq ft learn-to-ride area designed to offer a safe and educational environment for people of all ages and abilities to learn and develop their skills.
Velosolutions UK (AVUK) have designed a cutting-edge floodlit asphalt facility which includes the beginner track and a 130 metre pump track with a 40 metres advanced jump line.
Rest areas have been incorporated into the track design. There will be a secure storage container for equipment.
