M6 traffic warning with delays expected over 12mph driver

by · Manchester Evening News

Drivers travelling along the M6 this morning have been warned of possible delays today (Saturday) due to a major operation lasting 12 hours.

A wide-load operation will be taking place, National Highways have said, travelling northbound up the motorway. It will join the M6 at junction 34 for Heysham up to Longtown in Cumbria.

On X, National Highways North West posted: "We are advising #M6 road users to drive with caution today as a 12mph wide load operation is taking place at 9am, lasting around 12 hrs. #J34 Heysham, Lancashire to Longtown, Cumbria. Care & patience when overtaking."

It comes as drivers around Greater Manchester will also be affected by another major motorway being shut. The M62 is shut all weekend for final works to be completed on a railway bridge, with drivers warned to expect delays and diversions in the area.
