DWP claimants on PIP and DLA to lose one-off £750 payment in days

by · Manchester Evening News

A one-off payment of £750 for people claiming two disability benefits from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) will end at the start of next year.

People claiming Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Disability Living Allowance (DLA) will no longer be able to get the New Vehicle Payment from January 3.

The one-off sum is given to people buying new vehicles on the Motability Scheme. According to Motability, it was introduced to help with the increasing price of new cars due to global shortages.

The deadline for buying a new car with the New Vehicle Payment will be January 3, and people who still need to make their purchase are being urged to be quick as the deadline looms.

Motability said orders must be completed by the deadline date, but vehicles can still be collected after this date. The deadline won't affect anyone who already has a Motability vehicle, reports Birmingham Live.

Motability vehicles are available to people on the higher-rate mobility components of PIP and DLA - as well as Scotland's equivalents Adult Disability Payment (ADP) and Child Disability Payment (CDP) - in exchange for some or all of these disability elements. Those on the veterans' benefits Armed Forces Independence Payment and War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement also qualify.

The Motability Scheme provides standard cars, electric vehicles, wheelchair-accessible vehicles, scooters, powered wheelchairs, and necessary disability adaptations. The payment is a one-time offer and does not apply to every new vehicle order.

If the chosen car requires an advance payment, the £750 can be sent to the dealer to cover this cost. If the advance needed exceeds £750, the difference must be covered by the customer.

The New Product Payment for those ordering scooters or electric wheelchairs is a lower amount of £100, which will also end on January 3.
