DVLA big change that affects every driver in the UK
by Robert Dalling · Wales OnlineThe DVLA has revolutionised the process of car tax renewals across the UK by launching a new service, which will greatly benefit drivers. With the latest system, motorists can now tax their vehicles without needing the V5C (log book) or the V11 vehicle tax reminder letter, which was not possible before, should those documents go missing.
The agency explained that the innovation allows customers to request a new V5C and sort out their vehicle tax simultaneously online. By accessing the DVLA's web platform, drivers, who need make no amendments to their ownership details, can settle their new vehicle tax instantly.
Additionally, a replacement V5C will be mailed to them.
Head of DVLA, Julie Lennard, remarked: "We are always looking for ways to improve our digital services to provide more convenience for motorists. This latest enhancement will enable customers who have misplaced or lost their V5C to get a replacement and tax their vehicle quickly and easily."
This update follows another recent development from the DVLA that permits drivers to receive digital reminders for vehicle tax, avoiding the wait for postal reminders, as part of its innovative Driver and Vehicles Account Service.
The RAC states on its website: "Accounts are easy-to-use, secure, and only take a few minutes to set up. Once an account is live, drivers can sign in using their email and password, and be able to view their driving licence information, including endorsements and penalty points; view vehicles that are registered to them including tax and MOT status; change their contact preferences; set up vehicle tax reminders by email and for the first time by SMS text; and choose to stop getting vehicle tax reminders by post."
