British Gas, Octopus, Eon, EDF and OVO customers can get £200 cost of living payments
by Richard Guttridge, https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/authors/richard-guttridge/ · Birmingham LiveThere was more bad news for households last week when it was announced energy bills would be going up yet again from January. Customers with the likes of British Gas, Octopus and Eon will pay £21 more for their gas and electricity on average, and it will likely leave many worried about how they will find the extra money.
But certain customers have been told there is a way they could get cash to help them cope with higher bills. Special cost of living payments are available from local councils for households who are struggling to pay their bills.
So anyone worried about the latest energy price hikes should check their council's cost of living online pages to see what help could be available. Local authorities are making payments through the Household Support Fund, made up of emergency cash from the Government.

In order to be considered for cash, people have to show they are struggling to afford basic essentials like food and energy. Some councils are paying out hundreds of pounds to those who qualify.
Worried customers can also contact their energy supplier if they don't think they will be able to pay bills as they may be able to get help. The Government says: "You may be able to get help with essential costs from your local council. This is sometimes known as ‘the Household Support Fund’.
"This could help if you’re struggling to afford things like: energy and water bills, food and essential items. Your council may also offer food vouchers to families during the school holidays."
