People are just realising energy firms are giving out FREE winter gadgets to keep warm without putting the heating on. Octopus Energy is offering customers free electric blankets through its £30 million Octopus Assist fund.

Ovo Energy is also offering money-saving gadgets to households through a £50 million customer support package. Writing in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group, one customer said: "Just wanted to say thank you to the lady who posted about free heated throw from OVO.

"Mine arrived yesterday. I didn't know anything about this offer until I read it here." Another said: "Just found it and applied thank you I was planning on trying to buy one." A third wrote: "Just found it and applied thank you I was planning on trying to buy one."

While a fourth said: "I applied when I read about it here. Arrived last week and it's been wonderful. Been using my electric throw every day and am so much warmer now." And a fifth commented: "I'm with Ovo I didn't know!"

OVO explains: "If you think you’ll struggle to pay your bills and you’re an OVO or Boost customer, then you might be eligible. It doesn’t take long to apply for support and you’ll get your answer right away. When you apply for support, things like household income, any disposable income, and medical needs will be taken into account – to help prioritise those who need help most.

"We won’t be able to offer everything to everyone – but we’re hoping to help as many people as possible." The firm goes on to say: "Our specialist teams will be available to speak to any of our customers who are worried about energy costs."

Octopus said: "Our electric blankets scheme is there to support customers most in need, particularly for people with really specific vulnerabilities and medical needs. To make sure the blankets are getting into the right hands, we’ll be prioritising those customers.

"Customers who apply for our Octo Assist will be assessed and offered the support that’ll be most appropriate for them."
