Martin Lewis says energy customers have 48 hours to call up 'and get money back'
by James Rodger, https://www.facebook.com/jamesrodgerjournalist · Birmingham LiveMartin Lewis says energy customers have 48 hours to call up and get money back. BBC Sounds star Mr Lewis says this is the time of year to check and get money back from your supplier and it affects British Gas, EDF, E ON Next, Octopus or OVO customers.
Martin told his ITV The Martin Lewis Money Show viewers that November is the month where you should have the most credit. Martin said: “This is the time of the year where you should be most in credit, which means it’s quite a good time to look at how much credit you are in.
“I would say two months, if you have no more than two months’ worth of credit right now, that’s probably about right, you want to be in credit right now, don’t speak to them. But if you’ve got three, four, five, six months’ worth of credit with your energy provider, get up on the phone and say ‘I think I’ve got too much credit and I would like the money in my bank account and not yours, please.

“Be very polite, but over two months’ worth of credit right now, I’d be getting in touch with them and see if you can do it online and get your credit back." The Money Saving Expert founder said: “I’ve got loads of successes of people getting hundreds of pounds back on this.
Citizens Advice explains: "Contact your supplier and tell them how much credit you’d like them to refund you. Their contact details should be on your bill or online account. Your supplier might not give you a refund if they have a good reason. For example, they might not give you a refund if you only have a small amount of credit on your account during summer. This is because you’re likely to need the credit for your higher bills during autumn and winter.
"If your supplier says they won’t give you a refund, they must explain their decision."
