The Warm Home Discount has been launched again for this winter.

British Gas, Octopus, Eon, EDF and OVO customers to have bills slashed by £150

by · Birmingham Live

Certain pensioners and low-income households will be getting help with their energy bills over winter. Those who qualify for the Warm Home Discount are being reminded how the scheme works.

They will get £150 knocked off their gas and electricity bills at one time only over winter. They will not be given a cash payment, however.

The amount will either be added to their account as credit or issued in the form of a voucher. When this will happen depends on when suppliers decide to do it. It could be any time between October and March.

It's automatic and households don't need to apply for the support. The Government will be writing to people who are eligible for the discount.

Those who qualify include people on the Guarantee Credit portion of Pension Credit and certain other households with low incomes and high energy costs. The scheme targets those most likely to struggle with gas and electricity costs over winter.

Energy giant British Gas explained: "It’s there to provide support for those living on low incomes or pensions. If you qualify for the winter 2024/25 payment, you will have your one-off £150 discount applied by the end of March next year at the latest.

"The discount will be added to your electricity account as a credit. And if you're on Pay as you go, we'll send you a voucher you can use to top up your meter at a Post Office."

They added: "In England and Wales the Government will write to you to confirm if you are eligible."
